Lode Runner was a simple game from 1987 in which the player controlled a pixilated character that made his way around a play area that bore more than a passing resemblance to the original Donkey Kong screens, lots of floors, ladders connecting them, and zip lines that could be crossed hand over hand.

The objective for the player was to move the character through the screens, collecting idols and avoiding ever-increasing numbers of enemies.
